Gulaan is a Bahá'í musician and songwriter from New Caledonia. He gained international attention in
January 2018 when he appeared on The Voice France (Season 7) and performed his composition Nodei
Perofeta ('All the Prophets'), which enumerated the major prophets of world religions as recognised by
the Bahá'í Faith (from Abraham through to Bahá'u'lláh).
His music integrates Kanak indigenous musical traditions — particularly Nengone and Drehu musical styles — with French chanson and Bahá'í devotional content.
'The title 'Mobarak' is Persian (Farsi) for 'Happy Birthday to you' ('tavalod' = birthday; 'mobarak' =
blessed/congratulations). It is used in the Bahá'í context as a celebration of the birthdays of the Báb and Bahá'u'lláh.
Gulaan's Kanak heritage and his project of expressing Bahá'í spirituality is through indigenous Pacific voices from Kanak language, Nengone primarily on Maré Island in the Loyalty Islands Province of New Caledonia. Drehu and Iaai are related Kanak languages of the Loyalty Islands. The recordings reflect the presence of these languages.
